Hi-C Ecto Cooler Marketing Has Begun

newectocoolercanjuicebox

Exciting news today as ghostheads found out (thanks to GBNJ member Kenneth) not only is Hi-C Ecto-Cooler coming, the marketing campaign has started! Though I suppose before we get into the fun stuff, (my past kid self disapproves) let’s take a brief look at the business side.

Why are we getting Ecto-Cooler in 2016? Charles Torrey, Vice President, Minute Maid/Hi-C Brands, Coca-Cola North America has the answer.

From BusinessWire:

“Hi-C Ecto Cooler fueled a pop culture phenomenon that is well remembered and beloved by fans to this day,” said Charles Torrey, Vice President, Minute Maid/Hi-C Brands, Coca-Cola North America. “Sony Pictures was extremely enthusiastic about bringing it back for this special occasion, and the timing of the upcoming Ghostbusters film made this the exact right time.”

Cryptozoic Entertainment Ghostbusters Fan Club Kit Pre-Order

gbsfanclubkitpack.png

At last month’s Toy Fair New York aka NYTF, one of the collectible items Cryptozoic Entertainment had on display (GBI Blog Post, February 14, 2016) is the upcoming GHOSTBUSTERS Fan Club Collector Kit.

As I was too young for the official fan club (GBI Blog Post, June 8, 2014) and somehow missed out on Ghostbusters cereal’s “Be a Ghostbuster” cereal premium (GBI Blog Post, October 20, 2014) thirty two years later finally, I get to officially be part of a Ghostbusters fan club! 😀

Even though I wanted to with GBI, I never quite had the financial means to keep mass quantities of fan club materials to give to “franchises.”Read More »

Paul Feig Confirms Ecto Cooler’s Return

ectocooler

The momentum for Ecto Cooler continues to build as some people are receiving a product sample Hi-C Ecto Cooler 2016, (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, February 19, 2016) and samples have been tasted.

When Ghostbusters (2016) director Paul Feig was asked by Alex Lobo via Twitter about Ecto Cooler’s 2016 release, we all received the following response:

I don’t know when sooner in relation to Ghostbusters (2016) release in July. I do feel at the end of February its too soon for Coke/Hi-C to release anything related to marketing. Maybe after March 3, 2016 at the earliest once Ghostbusters (2016) first trailer (Ghostbusters International Blog Post, February 14, 2016) is released.

Potential Ecto Cooler Product Sample Update

Yesterday I woke up to new Ecto Cooler news. (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, February 18, 2016) Last night as I was exiting the internet for the night their was some clarification and an update about the seeming evolution of Hi-C Ecto-Cooler.

The mystery can from the eBay seller naturally received attention about the auction. As I was preparing this post I saw it (the auction, not my site 😉 was trending on Facebook. Since it could be about me 😀 I saw my post among the feed. That’s cool.

Nearing bedtime the seller’s auction was back up with added information. Apparently the can belonged to a friend who use to work in a marketing company. However, not in a long time. From an outside point of view I could see why some related company might still send that person a product sample for upcoming marketing. My issue with the seller is if s/he had explained that from the beginning, sites likes mine could have talked more positively, etc about new Ecto-Cooler then speculating about how real this is.Read More »

Potential Ecto Cooler Product Sample

Since last I wrote about Ecto-Cooler (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, November 27, 2015) possibly returning things had been quiet about our favorite ’80s citrus drink. Until today. Practically the first Ghostbusters news item I woke up to was physical proof of a new, Ecto-Cooler can. However, this proof comes from an eBay auction.Read More »

While We Wait For New Ecto Cooler

Hi-C_Ecto-Cooler_Can_Label_Original

It’s been more than a decade since I last bought Hi-C juice boxes. The only reason I did in 2003 was because Dinosaur Dracula (formerly X-Entertainment) confirmed Ecto Cooler still existed, without the name and Ghostbusters packaging.

I couldn’t tell you today (or even then) if Shoutin’ Orange Tangergreen tasted anything like Ecto Cooler. It probably was fun to have a taste of childhood in the present.

With news of Ecto Cooler (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, November 27, 2015) once again trademarked from Coca~Cola and an unknown about whether ghostheads will officially have our citrus flavored drink back that reminded us of slime; what are we suppose to do in the meantime?

Hi-C Ecto Cooler To Return (Maybe)

ectocooler

If you live in a country that celebrates Thanksgiving (because your ancestors mostly needed to leave a continent for their religious beliefs) you may initially have missed an important trademark registry breaking the internet.

Resurrect Ecto Cooler (Facebook) shared that Coca~Cola (who owns Hi-C and also once owned Ghostbusters because they had owned Columbia Pictures) have renewed the Ecto Cooler trademark through the United States Patent and Trademark Office. It was actually done back in September.Read More »

The Real Watch

thergbwatchset

Recently a technology company released a digital watch. The core of the produce section watch is the same, their designs, style, and even the way they’re made varies. Did you know another company that invented technology also was involved in the watch business back in the 1980s?

Amongst the upper echelon of Ghostbusters merchandise, originally meant for children, also stylish enough for adults is The Real Watch, watches based on the Ghostbusters and The Real Ghostbusters license.Read More »

Brent Waller’s LEGO Ghostbusters Stay-Puft

staypuftlegoman

Last April we introduced Ecto-Containment readers to Brent Waller’s LEGO Ideas Ghostbusters Stay-Puft. Since then Lego Cuusoo became LEGO Ideas, Brent’s Ghostbusters ECTO-1 set became a reality, Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary has come to pass, and Ghostbusters is really getting a new movie, uh we think.

While that may bring on new merchandising and marketing opportunities, it doesn’t mean more LEGO Ghostbusters sets are a sure thing.Read More »

My Ghostbusters Japanese Merchandise

japangbposter

Note: Originally appeared at my personal site, iRich

If you’re a ghosthead and read the comments in my blog post about Universal considering bringing back (GBI) the Ghostbusters Spooktacular this year you would have learned for the first time about my fascination with Japan.

If you’re Japanese or from Japan I mean no disrespect. Yeah, I’m an American. I grew up in a suburb of a small New Jersey city, (compared to nearby cities, such as New York City) which has its own rich history. Something maybe I’ll talk about eventually. Nothing like a country or city on another continent.

I learned a lot in school about US and world history, their never could be enough time to study more of a countries history and culture. Its something I really couldn’t appreciate until after graduating.

This is where no disrespect is intended from an American with Italian, Irish, German, and maybe French (still haven’t proven it) heritage. From a kid who grew up in Jersey, the distance to Japan to how their culture seems to me without really understanding it, Japan may as well be an alien world.

The internet (then later documentary shows) has allowed me to read and view about countries and cultures in a way I couldn’t have growing up. Unfortunately I’ve never visited any country besides America. I still have plenty of states I still could visit.

Their’s two things (more then that, perhaps some other time) where I’d fit in quite well with Japanese people. Our shared interests in GHOSTBUSTERS and Back To The Future.

The Real Ghostbusters Stay-Puft Party

rgbstaypuftplateinvite

Last month around this time (almost to the day) after posting about Party Time RGBs plates I came across another The Real Ghostbusters party plate. This plate (with party invitation!) was produced by C.A. Reed. It features The Real Ghostbusters in an action pose, seems like artwork that was used on other products. What are they so afraid of?Read More »
