When it came to toys based on Ghostbusters II Kenner didn’t fully capitalize on the potential opportunities. Even with a The Real Ghostbusters episode, Partners In Slime which has the most Ghostbusters II influence.
The toy someone was bound to make because of Ghostbusters II was the Slime Blower. Fortunately as Kenner made The Real Ghostbusters toys and had previously made a Proton Pack they created the Ecto-Charger Pack.
The Ecto-Charger Pack was the last of The Real Ghostbusters toys I had growing up. I still remember when my parents and I were at Kay-Bee Toys to buy one. Near the front of the store were a couple of shelves with the Ecto-Charger Pack on them. I was probably around 12 and remember that the RGB version of the Slime Blower seemed small. True, it was definitely kid scale compared to the movie versions. I was older and taller too from when I originally had the Proton Pack.
Kenner marketed the Ecto-Charger Pack as the official one The Real Ghostbusters wear. Unless the characters in the series were suppose to wear them and at some point that changed over at Columbia Pictures Television/DIC Entertainment they never wore Ecto-Charger Packs. Maybe that’s the reason a Ghostbusters II decal was included.
The only time during The Real Ghostbusters Slime Blower like packs are used is in the episode Flip Side. The Peoplebusters used water cooler looking packs that had some kind of slime goo in them.
Its understandable today, yet unfortunate Kenner couldn’t have a Ecto/Slime Charger that could “spray” ectoplazm. Instead of slime the Ecto-Charger Pack has a hidden “wand” that when triggered pops out from the “nozzle” part of the charger. It looks like a mutated popsicle. The “slime wand” de-energizes ghosts.
None of which were included with the Ecto-Charger Pack. It’s too bad Kenner never made Ghostbusters II figures.
