Back In The Saddle Part 2

Back In The Saddle Pt. 2

Episode 38

You’ll Need A Reference: The episode title, Back In The Saddle has origins from a popular 1940s cowboy song, “Back In The Saddle Again.” To be back in the saddle, someone or something is operational once again.

A saddle is a seat for a person to sit on more commonly for when they’re riding a horse. Similar, a saddle could be used for a bicycle, farm equipment.

Location: Scenic Waters Near NYC. (Day)

It Just Popped In There: With The Real/Extreme Ghostbusters knowing something bigger is out there, did Peter decide while they wait to go fishing with Garrett? Or more of work, chance to slack off activity?

  • “We’ve been out here for 3 hours. I can’t believe I let you talk me into this.” – Garrett
  • “Patience my man. Tuna?” – Peter
  • [sounding excited] “You got one on the line?” – Garrett
  • “Uh no, on rye.” – Peter

It Just Popped In There: It’s nice of Peter to share a Tuna sandwich with Garrett, they only had one sandwich? Or just that one sandwich was left for a day trip where they thought there were would be a bountiful feast later on.

  • “Weird fog.” – Peter
  • [after watching fog take down a speed boat] “That my friend is one nasty fog.” – Peter

It Just Popped In There: For around the 21 minute mark animated episode I know that their isn’t a reason to show what I’m saying. Do you think Peter and Garrett tried to help the couple, call emergency services? Maybe the show should have been called Moody Ghostbusters.

Location: NYC Airport. (Day)

  • “Are you sure you two can’t stay another couple of days? I’m planning a big Thanksgiving dinner at the Firehouse.” – Janine
  • “I’d love to Janine. I promised my sister I’d make it down for the holidays.” – Winston
  • “I got a workshop to teach at the Paranormal Expo in Miami.” – Ray

It Just Popped In There: I know Thanksgiving is coming up and people have obligations. Remember that darkness all of you experienced not long ago. Maybe you heard about some “unusual” fog Peter and Garrett recently saw?

With it getting dark outside I have a feeling flights are about to be heavily postponed.

Quote: “Attention passengers we regret that all south and eastbound departures have been cancelled. Due to extreme fog.” – That one airport announcer person.

Location: Ghostbusters Firehouse. Room: Lab.

It Just Popped In There: Was that a siren as we’re transitioning to the Firehouse? The neighborhood isn’t what it use to be.

It’s Technical/Quotes:

  • [scanning Peter] “Am I going to make it?” – Peter
  • “Be quiet Peter. You’ll affect the readings.” – Egon
  • “Fascinating. The residual readings of the entity you were exposed to are unlike any I’ve ever encountered.” – Egon
  • “They indicate a spectral density in a state of incalculable flux.” – Egon

[Ray and Winston enter]

  • “These readings are provocative, but inclusive. We need more data.” – Egon

[Janine and Roland enter]

  • “Guys, we just got a call from the mayor of Barkley Bluffs in New Jersey. He said you have to see it to believe it.” – Janine

It Just Popped In There: Why didn’t that mayor call Ghostbusters NJ? Oh that’s right, there are zero (animated) franchises established by the time of Extreme Ghostbusters.

You’ll Need A Reference: If I heard animated Janine correctly there isn’t a real town in NJ by that name. Although there is a Maurice River Bluffs Preserve in Millville, NJ. Located in south Jersey where we grow tomatoes.

Location: Barkley Bluffs, NJ (Day)

  • “If you want to tourists to spend money at your waterfront, you have to have a waterfront.” – Mayor
  • “One minute the fog’s rolling in…” – Mayor
  • “Fog?” – Roland
  • “The next it’s all gone.” – Mayor

Location: Barkley Bluffs, NJ. Area: Waterfront (Day)

Quotes/It’s Technical:

  • “Hmm, this residue has the same P.K.E resonance as the entity you [Garrett] and Peter were exposed to.” – Egon
  • “We’re dealing with one intensely powerful poltergeist.” – Ray
  • “Must have moved back out onto the water.” – Roland
  • “Yes, given the speed and level of deterioration of the P.K.E signal it should be just about here.” – Ray
  • “Isn’t that where Dr. Venkman’s boat was headed?” – Roland

Location: Somewhere Out To Sea. Dr. Venkman’s Boat (Day)

It Just Popped In There: For a career where the ‘pay was non existent’ Peter has a nice enough boat.

  • [Looking At P.K.E Meter]”I’m getting some trace readings, nothing concrete.” – Kylie
  • [to Eduardo] “You are a Ghostbuster. You’re on a case. Whip out your P.K.E and get to work!” – Kylie
  • “What about [looking at Peter] him?” – Eduardo
  • “I’m retired.” – Peter

It Just Popped In There: Seems more semi retired if you’re still wearing your uniform.

Quotes/Its Technical:

  • “Storm’s coming in.” – Winston
  • “That’s no storm, that’s a fog bank.” – Kylie
  • “With a field half a mile wide.” – Kylie

It Just Popped In There: It’s more then that. Why didn’t Egon radio to Peter’s boat about their findings? Or maybe they tried and couldn’t reach them.

  • “What good are Proton Blasters going to do against fog?” – Eduardo
  • “By all indications their’s an ectoplasmic core within the fog. That’s what we need to attack.” – Kylie

Location: Somewhere Out To Sea. (Day)

Quote: “Lose the packs before they drag us under.” – Winston

It Just Popped In There: I wonder if the equipment could be rescued later if it could be salvaged?

  • “There she goes.” – Winston
  • “Yeah, and my rental deposit with her.” – Peter

It Just Popped In There: Oh, it was only a rental. I think Peter is going to lose more then his deposit. I doubt insurance covers ‘ghost fog.’

Location: Ghostbusters Firehouse. Room: Lab. (Day)

  • “Missing tanker, spring 1953. Missing yacht, winter 1994. ” – Egon
  • “I don’t get what any of those disappearances have to do with us. They all happened within a confined area.” – Roland
  • “The Bermuda Triangle.” – Kylie

Sorry, I Missed It: Egon’s “no ghost” logo patch is missing the famous ghost. The animation has been this way at times in both parts. I’m trying not to point it out as much.

It Just Popped In There: I’ll take animated Egon’s word for it that the two ships he mentioned really went missing decades apart.

You’ll Need A Reference: This isn’t the first time The Real Ghostbusters dealt with a geometrically shaped paranormal area. In season 2 Venkman’s Ghost Repellers the team encounters the New Jersey Parallelogram.

Quotes/Tobin’s Spirit Guide:

  • “Correct. As you know The Bermuda Triangle for centuries has been an area where ships, then later planes have mysteriously disappeared.” – Egon
  • “Well I think we solved the mystery. They got eaten.” – Peter
  • “Absorbed perhaps would be more accurate. By an ingestive ectoplasmic entity that shrouds itself in fog.” – Egon

You’ll Need A Reference:

The Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil’s Triangle, is a loosely-defined region in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean, where a number of aircraft and ships are said to have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Most reputable sources dismiss the idea that there is any mystery. The vicinity of the Bermuda Triangle is one of the most heavily traveled shipping lanes in the world, with ships frequently crossing through it for ports in the Americas, Europe, and the Caribbean islands. Cruise ships and pleasure craft regularly sail through the region, and commercial and private aircraft routinely fly over it.

Popular culture has attributed various disappearances to the paranormal or activity by extraterrestrial beings. Documented evidence indicates that a significant percentage of the incidents were spurious, inaccurately reported, or embellished by later authors.

Quotes/Tobin’s Spirit Guide:

  • “More like an adolescent struggling to reach maturity. Until recently it was satisfied staying in one place feeding on stray ships and aircraft.” – Ray
  • “You mean, it’s a baby?” – Kylie
  • “I’ve run a system analysis of the P.K.E readings. This creature appears to be a similar class of demon to the one we encountered before. Except this one is in a semi-nascent state of development.” – Ray
  • “Yeah, but we weren’t in Bermuda. We were off the coast of Jersey.” – Eduardo
  • “Yes I know. About six months ago a new pattern of disappearances began to emerge. The entity began moving north, up the eastern seaboard towards New York City.” – Egon
  • [After Peter simplifies the situation for us] “…remember that for every boat and plane, every building that gets devoured their are people being taken as well.” – Egon

  • [Winston enters] “You guys better come up and see this.” – Winston

It Just Popped In There: I had been thinking where is Winston, why wouldn’t he also be in the lab?

Location: Ghostbusters Firehouse Exterior. Rooftop (Day)

  • “That’s either a whole lot of smog blowing in from Brooklyn or we have a major problem.” – Garrett

Location: Ghostbusters Firehouse Interior: Room: Garage Bay (Day)

Sorry, I Missed It: While geographically correct outside North America, the “no ghost” logos on ECTO-1 are technically facing the “wrong”direction. The infamous logo is drawn/animated this way at times. It was like that during The Real Ghostbusters as well.

Right after this scene when ECTO-1 is on the street the real “no ghost” logo is “right.”

Location: NYC Streets With ECTO-1 (Day)

  • “These things didn’t work before, why is this time going to be any different?” – Eduardo
  • “Last time we didn’t use the Fusion adapters. We’ve got more firepower now.” – Ray

Location: NYC Streets. Near Liberty Island. (Day)

  • “The entity hasn’t reached Liberty Island yet. We still have a chance to stop it before it reaches the main land.” – Egon
  • “We’re going to need a boat.” – Winston

You’ll Need A Reference:

Liberty Island is a federally owned island in Upper New York Bay in the United States, best known as the location of the Statue of Liberty. The island is an exclave of the New York City borough of Manhattan, surrounded by the waters of Jersey City, New Jersey. Long known as Bedloe’s Island, it was renamed by an act of the United States Congress in 1956. In 1937, by Presidential Proclamation 2250 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, it became part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument and in 1966, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of Statue of Liberty National Monument, Ellis Island and Liberty Island.

Source: Wikipedia

You’ll Need A Reference: In order to break through to “the museum” to battle Vigo during GHOSTBUSTERS II, the Ghostbusters went to Liberty Island. Using mood slime they brought “Ms. Liberty” to life, and together made the journey back to the museum.

  • “Not necessarily. Sit back and watch the Venkman charm in action people.” – Peter
  • “How’d you do that?” – Winston
  • “I told him it was important Ghostbusters business. A matter of life and death.” – Peter
  • “And that worked?” – Garrett
  • “Uh no. So I offered him $500 bucks to rent the thing. You should be getting the bill in a couple of days.” – Peter

It Just Popped In There: I get that Egon is less than pleased by Peters usual methods. They were already waisting time on finding a different way to get to “the entity.” Which if they don’t stop soon, bills won’t really matter.

Moody Ghostbusters.

Location: Above Liberty Island. (Day)

Quote/It’s Technical: “The entity’s vectoring in on the statue. ETA: 2 minutes.

You’ll Need A Reference:

The Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World; French: La Liberté éclairant le monde) is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor in New York City, in the United States. The copper statue, designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, a French sculptor, was built by Gustave Eiffel and dedicated on October 28, 1886. It was a gift to the United States from the people of France. The statue is of a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess, who bears a torch and a tabula ansata (a tablet evoking the law) upon which is inscribed the date of the American Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776. A broken chain lies at her feet. The statue is an icon of freedom and of the United States, and was a welcoming sight to immigrants arriving from abroad.

Location: Liberty Island. (Day)

Quote/It’s Technical: “Power up people, the entity is very near.” – Egon

Quote/It’s Technical: “Prepare for synchronized attack.” – Egon

Quote/It’s Technical: “We need to concentrate the beams. Try and sever the tendril.” – Egon

It Just Popped In There: Why didn’t “the entity” also devour the pedestal and base of The Statue Of Liberty?

Quotes/It’s Technical:

  • “The Fusion adaptor should have worked on it. It’s just too darn big.” – Ray
  • “I’m afraid it simply retreated to regenerate and regroup for another attack.”
  • [With Emotion] “Manhattan.” – Ray

Location: Honest Irvs Wrecking Yard (Day)

Quote: “Check this out.” – Roland

It Just Popped In There/Sorry I Missed It: For wrecks, they seem to be in good shape. Hope Honest Irv gave them a good deal. Egon was worried about that $500 USD.

Also, lazy animation or foreshadowing? That fire truck has a “no ghost” logo on one of its doors.

Location: Ghostbusters Firehouse. Room: Janine’s Desk. (Day)

It Just Popped In There: Where has Janine been? Did she take a day to prepare that Thanksgiving meal she’s been planning?

Quote: “Port Authority. This is an emergency situation. You’ve got to alert all ships and ferries to stay out of the harbor. There’s a major ectoplasmic entity on [laughter on the other end] the loose..hello?” – Egon

Location: Ghostbusters Firehouse. Room: Garage Bay. (Day)

It Just Popped In There: Kenner had planned on producing a Ghostbusters fire frighter truck as part of a The Real Ghostbusters vehicle line in the early 1990s. It went un-produced along with other would-be RGBs figures and vehicles.

Quotes/It’s Technical:

  • “This baby will deliver a proton blast with the 100x the force of existing weaponry.” – Roland
  • “And to trap the entity we’ll use this. It’s operated by a remote device.” – Egon

You’ll Need A Reference: In season 2 Bustman’s Holiday The Real Ghostbusters convert an entire fleet of garbage trucks into mobile Containment Units to trap 723 ghosts from the Battle of Dunkeld.

Location: NYC Streets. With Modded Trucks. (Day)

Quotes/Tobin’s Spirit Guide:

  • “I theorize this entity will keep on digesting matter until its size and density achieve critical mass. And then…” – Egon
  • “Don’t tell me. It’ll let out one colossal burp.” – Peter
  • [Contining] “It will most likely become quasi-gravational.” – Egon
  • “Like a black hole in space. Instead of moving toward matter, all matter will be drawn to it.” – Ray
  • “It will in essence devour everything there is. Starting with NYC, then the eastern seaboard and eventually…[dispatch cuts in]” – Egon

Location: Ghostbusters Firehouse. Room: Janine’s Desk. (Day)

It just Popped In There: Janine didn’t take a two week break. She’s been preparing for the upcoming Thanksgiving meal.

Quote: “Speaking of eating, quick question. Does anyone want yams instead of mashed potatoes?” – Janine

Location: Washington Square Arch. (Day)

You’ll Need A Reference:

The Washington Square Arch is a marble triumphal arch built in 1892 in Washington Square Park in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan in New York City. It celebrates the centennial of George Washington’s inauguration as President of the United States in 1789 and forms the grand southern terminus of Fifth Avenue.

Source: Wikipedia

You’ll Need A Reference: Fortunately The Real/Extreme Ghostbusters will be able to battle this large entity. Unlike in Ghostbusters II when there was a large ghost hanging around The Washington Square Arch as the river of slime was overflowing beneath and above New York City.

Location: Central Park. (Day. Looks Like Night)

You’ll Need A Reference:

Central Park is an urban park in Manhattan, New York City. Central Park is the most visited urban park in the United States, with 40 million visitors in 2013 and one of the most filmed locations in the world.

The Park was established in 1857 on 778 acres of city-owned land. In 1858, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, a landscape architect and an architect, respectively, won a design competition to improve and expand the park with a plan they titled the “Greensward Plan”. Construction began the same year and the park’s first area was opened to the public in the winter of 1858. Construction continued during the American Civil War farther north, and was expanded to its current size of 843 acres in 1873.

Central Park was designated a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior in 1962. The Park, managed for decades by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, is currently managed by the Central Park Conservancy under contract with the municipal government in a public-private partnership. The Conservancy is a non-profit organization that contributes 75 percent of Central Park’s $65 million annual budget and is responsible for all basic care of the 843-acre park.

You’ll Need A Reference: Louis Tully, whom at the time thought he had just been a neighbor of Dana Barrett was chosen to be the Keymaster. When Zuul chased Louis out of his apartment (across the street from Central Park) Mr. Tully jumped over a wall into the park, trying to escape. He spent a considerable amount of time that night in Central Park where he eventually [as Vinz Clortho] told a horse about “waiting for the sign.”

  • “Target acquired. Ready up there?” – Egon
  • “Ready.” – Ray

Quote: “I think it felt that.” – Ray

Quote: “The power relays are fried. We need an alternate power source.” – Winston

It Just Popped In There: It can never be that easy can it?

Quote: “Activating the trap.” – Egon

Quote: [Over headset] “Just for the record Janine I vote for yams and mashed potatoes!” – Egon

Location: New York City. The Return (Day)

  • “What’s going on?” – Roland
  • “Apparently anything and everyone devoured by the entity through the years is returning to the physical plane.” – Ray
  • “Fantastic, to think thousands will be getting a new lease on life.” – Egon

It Just Popped In There: The Port Authority is just going to LOVE this. They should have listened to Egon earlier.

Location: Ghostbusters Firehouse. Room: Dining Room.

Quote: “And now the main event.” – Janine

Quote: [looking at Slimer] “You pig!” – Peter

It Just Popped In There: I’m not sure with the impression if the word was pig or something like pay-ish. I didn’t check with any closed captioning.

Quote: “You didn’t? SLIMER!” – Janine

It Just Popped In There: How long have The Real (and now Extreme) Ghostbusters been buying two of every food item? No wonder Peter has to rent a fishing boat.

Seriously they know Slimer is a gluttonous ghost who despite entire episodes of The Real Ghostbusters where his appetite has at times gotten them in trouble, they continue to have to lose money and be deprived of slow cooked Turkeys.
