Hasbro Is The Master Toy Licensee Of Ghostbusters

hasbrogbslogo

This wasn’t entirely unexpected news. As stated in the press release Hasbro and Sony are partners with the recent (not talked about by me yet) Ghostbusters Transformers Ecto-1 Ectrotron. Which is also part of the current Ghostbusters/Transformers comic book series from IDW Publishing.

The fun part for ghostheads is Hasbro ties (sorta) to the original The Real Ghostbusters. Kenner was the “master toy company” for real Ghostbusters toys during 1980 something. Sometime after the series ended in 1991, Hasbro acquired Kenner.

What Ghostbusters toys will Hasbro make in 2020? I think safe bet mostly is a tie into Ghostbusters 2020. Will we see retro style real Ghostbusters figures? It’s fun to speculate and in time we’ll know.

Press release after the break.

IDW Publishing & Funko Publishing Funko Universe Comics

funko

IDW Publishing and Funko took what was probably an awesome meeting where the outcome will see Funko Pop Movie/TV characters in one off comics. Naturally you couldn’t have a Funko comics universe without Ghostbusters Pop Movies figures. (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, August 16, 2014)

Before they skyrocketed straight into the cultural zeitgeist, Funko’s Pop! vinyl figures started out for sale in comic shops. This May, they’re going back to the beginning by teaming with comic publisher IDW for a month of special one-shot comics featuring Funko versions of IDW’s iconic pop culture properties like Ghostbusters and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Funko Universe Month at IDW will primarily consist of five one-shot comics: Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The X-Files, Strawberry Shortcake, and Judge Dredd. But there will also be Funko variant covers available for that month’s issues of regular IDW titles like Back to the Future, Orphan Black: Deviations, Dirk Gently: The Salmon of Doubt, The Powerpuff Girls, Star Trek, and more.

IDW Publishing Ghostbusters International Comics

agbintcomicoverIDW Publishing Ghostbusters comic news out of the recent New York Comic Con.

It was announced (um probably at NYCC) that IDW will publish international adventures of the comic Ghostbusters.

The title will appropriately be named Ghostbusters International.

As a guy who once owned and paid way too much for the domain name I wish this part of the comic series had been around over the last decade.

The basic premise of Ghostbusters International comics is that the established Ghostbusters will be dealing with international  ghosts at there respective international locations.

Perhaps as early as Issue #1 we’ll also see new Ghostbusters to probably handle business in America.

Comic Book Resources interviewed Erik about Ghostbusters International.

I’m an eyewitness, anybody want to interview me? 😀

Ghostbusters International Issue #1 will be available in January 2016.

Ghostbusters Annual 2015 Cover And Information

Remember when I wrote three days ago about the timeline of events with IDW’s upcoming Ghostbusters annual? “That’s ok, I don’t either.” Today straight from Spook Central’s Facebook page (at least where I read it) comes the necessary information along with our first look at the cover.Read More »

IDW To Publish Ghostbusters Annual 2015

When I think Ghostbusters annuals, I tend to think about the two The Real Ghostbusters annuals (Ghostbusters Firehouse) and don’t usually think of newer Ghostbusters specials. While I’m a guardian of The Real Ghostbusters comics, (Ghostbusters Firehouse) I’m not always as connected to IDW Ghostbusters comics. Or most comics for that matter. :/

Erik Burnham, after being asked posted that a 2015 Ghostbusters annual should go on sale this coming November. After a different follow up question about the story, Erik replied:

The main feature (art by Dan & Luis) will primarily feature the original four and an appearance by our version of the sandman (he won’t be a cloaked figure putting people to sleep!)

But there will also be several backups – mostly one pagers – with art by a variety of other artists. Expect these to focus on other characters. Just wrote one with Janine, as a matter of fact, and Louis is on the docket as well.

If you’re interested let’s continue checking out what’s known about this annual. Trust me, this is more fun for you to read. 😀Read More »

Tobin’s Spirit Guide (Abridged) To Be Published From Insight Editions

idwissue8tsg

West End Games, Inc. published Tobin’s Spirit Guide (for use with Ghostbusters™ A Frightfully Cheerful Roleplaying Game) during Ghostbusters’ infancy.

During the internet age ghostheads have been making fan made versions which can encompass more then the films and the original RPG books. What can be included is unnaturally personal preference. Like this one (GB Inc. Blog Post, January 26, 2015) from Italian ghosthead Joe Nonostante. His version of Tobin’s clocks in at 496 pages!

With the release of Ghostbusters: The Video Game during Ghostbusters 25th anniversary Prima Games published a thorough game book which contains a Tobin’s Spirit Guide section.

While people with notable connections have tried to get a license to create such an official labor of love, it wasn’t in Spate’s Catalog. Or so it seemed.Read More »

IDW Ghostbusters Ongoing To Resume

idwgbcharactersmh

On June 18, 2014 (GB Inc. Blog Post) I wrote about IDW would discontinue publishing monthly Ghostbusters comics. While ghostheads wouldn’t have another years worth of Ghostbusters comics their would be mini-series. That’s cool, definitely better then no new Ghostbusters comics.

Not even a month later IDW Publishing announced (GB Inc. Blog Post, July 15, 2014) the first series, a Ghostbusters and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cross over. When our childhoods collide. So turtles mutated from ooze met up with guys who deal with slime. With the conclusion in Issue #4 (GB Inc. Blog Post, October 26, 2014) what would be next adventure for our Ghostbusters?Read More »

IDW To Publish The Real Ghostbusters Comics Omnibus

I’ve been meaning to post about this, prior to a mid week Independence Day I’ve been putting a lot of time into a new site I’m developing.

I’d like to thank Paul Rudoff from Spook Central for contacting me in regards to IDW Publishing announcing an upcoming The Real Ghostbusters omnibus. Which threw me as like most fans I would have never thought that NOW’s The Real Ghostbusters comics would ever see a new printing. I originally had mixed emotions about it as I’ve invested petty cash and my time into preserving each issue.

It’s only half of Volume I’s run and most likely won’t contain letters to the editor and the additional content which today makes NOW comics great. Which is why I’ve concluded (I think) if the comics find new fans (again) or somehow brings people to Ectocontainment™ to find the original run complete with letters, games, and advertising I’m ok with it.

The Real Ghostbusters Omnibus, Volume 1

James Van Hise, La Morris Richmond, John Tobias, Phil Hester, Evan Dorkin, Howard Bender (w)

Forget Egon’s rules – the streams have been crossed, the dead have risen, and a free-roaming apparition is part of the gang! It’s The Real Ghostbusters, ladies and gentlemen, and in this first volume omnibus collection you can score issues #1-14 of the classic NOW comics series. Be there as Ray, Peter, Egon, and Winston keep doing what they do. After all, they ain’t afraid of no ghosts!

TPB * FC * $24.99 * 354 pages * ISBN 978-1-61377-493-9

IDW’s The Real Ghostbusters Omnibus, Volume 1 is scheduled for November 2012.
