Chronicle Collectibles The Real Ghostbusters Figures

chroniclecollectiblesrgbsfigs.jpg

Diamond Select Toys produced a couple of series (Diamond Select Toys Blog Post) featuring The Real Ghostbusters figures. Although posable, they don’t quite capture, (from what I’ve seen of them) “the Kenner feel.” A reason I don’t own any of them.

On a higher end collector market, Chronicle Collectibles is producing all 4 The Real Ghostbusters figures along with Slimer. The bad: They’re more like statues, total cost, near $600 USD*, and Slimer is exclusive to buying the set. “Figures” without Slimer can be bought individually. *Chronicle Collectibles offers monthly payment plans.

Press release after the jump.

Funko Vinyl Idolz Dr. Ray Stantz Added To Ecto-Containment Store

After writing about Weta Workshop’s upcoming Ghostbusters vinyl figures, (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, July 18, 2019) it was finally the right time to list all 3 of Funko/Vinyl Idolz Ghostbusters figures. Before I made time to add them to the Ecto-Containment Store I first added them to Ecto-Containment’s Facebook Page. That’s how I sold both a Dr. Peter Venkman and Dr. Egon Spengler Vinyl Idolz.

Dr. Raymond Stantz Vinyl Idolz stands alone and should be part of a ghosthead’s collection. I’m selling this Vinyl Idolz for $10 USD before shipping.

As of today I’ve added Dr. Raymond Stantz Vinyl Idolz to the Store.

Ghostbusters Vinyl Figures Coming From Weta Workshop

I have to be honest, the standard that has been around with Vinyl figures peaked for me sometime ago. To the point I had thought their was really only one way to make them. Then Vinyl Sugar, a Funko brand came along with Ghostbusters Vinyl Idolz (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, October 24, 2015) and I probably said something like this is different.

I couldn’t have imagined in 4 years how much the vinyl figure landscape would change. Enter Weta Workshop. A company who does creative development, publishing, weapons, props, creatures, make-up, miniatures, public art, and merchandise for films” for at least the past 2 decades.

They already have figures from Aliens, Lord Of The Rings, and Men In Black to name a few. Coming in 2020 Weta Workshop is set to bring ghostheads three Ghostbusters figures. After the break, full sized photos!

Rich Review: Ghostbusters Stay Puft Cereal From Funko

funkostaypuftcerealbox5

In 2019 for Ghostbusters 35th Anniversary Funko made not 1, but 2 Ghostbusters branded cereals. The first, Ghostbusters Slimer Funko’s. (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, July 16, 2019) The second and probably final Funko’s Ghostbusters cereal was in association with The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Corporation. Well, if it really existed.

Rich Review: Ghostbusters Slimer Cereal From Funko

funkoslimercerealbox5

In 1985 Ralston brought us Ghostbusters cereal. (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, October 8, 2014) In 1990 after the Ghostbusters franchise went into a type of slumber, (also personally know to me as “the dark times”) our beloved cereal had disappeared.

Ghostbusters and its fandom would grow, anniversaries would see new merchandise, including things we could eat (GBI Blog Post, February 21, 2016) and drink. (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, June 17, 2016) Sure, Twinkies are snack food. It isn’t breakfast. When would ghostheads be able to have not expired and inexpensive Ghostbusters cereal again?

Enter toy (and cereal maker?) company Funko. In 2018 the Pops! company whom had already made plenty of Ghostbusters figures, (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, December 28, 2014) began producing Funko’s. Cereals based on licensed properties which probably already had a Pop! figure or 22.

The one Funko’s cereal that was missing, Ghostbusters. During a sorta off Ghostbusters anniversary, ghostheads had to maybe eat strange waffles instead.

What a difference a year makes. In 2019 Ghostbusters turned thirty five and decided it had a lot to do for this year and next year. To start a new day off right, it’s time for Funko’s. Ghostbusters. Slimer. Cereal!

Ecto-Containment Store Is Live

ectocstorepg

In the first attempt (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, February 13, 2018) at having an on-line store, things didn’t go as well as I would have liked. That came down to not having a real/direct way through Ecto-Containment to process payments.

This year because of recent updates I’m able to sell on site and with PayPal. Today I updated the Store with 6 Kenner The Real Ghostbusters toys.

Separately I’m selling in the Store my Kenner Firehouse Headquarters/Fire Station.

On the updated Matty Collector Figures page in the Store I’ve added thirteen 6″ figures based on Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters II, and Ghostbusters: The Video Game.

More Matty and other Ghostbusters collectibles to be added. Thank you for checking out the Store. If you have a question or are looking for something, please comment or email me at: spengs @ ecto-containment . com.

The Real Ghostbusters Magazine Fall ’89 Regular Cover

rgbmag89fallregcover

In 2011 I began preserving The Real Ghostbusters Magazine(s) (Ghostbusters Firehouse section) from my physical collection. The project wouldn’t have started or evolved without Paul Rudoff (Spook Central) or Matthew Jordan (Ghostbusters Wiki). The project as I knew it has been completed long since Ghostbusters had its 30th anniversary.

“Five years later” as Paul completed his RGBs Magazine collection he contacted us about a regular cover for Fall 1989. (Ghostbusters Firehouse page) The physical issue I have and had scanned. Which I suppose is a variant cover. Best I can recall from childhood, I had the variant cover which advertised the included “Fun & Fitness” supplement.

McDonald’s The Real Ghostbusters Promotion

mcdsrgbshappymealwash

During The Real Ghostbusters first full year in 1987 McDonald’s and Columbia Pictures came together with a theme, to sell your parents a cheeseburger (or McNugget) happy meal, and naturally include a The Real Ghostbusters toy.

The theme for the multiple Happy Meal boxes had to do with going back to school. Each meal box had fun and educational, (my 9 year old self wouldn’t have quite thought of them in that way) activities included on them.

The four theme related “places” are:

  • Headquarters
  • Library
  • Museum
  • Schoolhouse

Each The Real Ghostbusters meal box included one of the following toys. Really, The Real Ghostbusters stationary set.

  1. A Mr. Stay-Puft pencil sharpener.
  2. “Containment Chamber.” A clear pouch with a ghost design.
  3. The Real Ghostbusters pencil with Slimer/Fire House topper.
  4. A Mr. Stay-Puft note pad and “no ghost” logo eraser.
  5. A Mr. Stay-Puft note pad and The Real Ghostbusters 6″ ruler.

Wimpy Ghostbusters II Meal Box

wimpygbs2mealboxclose

Last year I wrote about fast food chain Wimpy and their Ghostbusters II commercial. (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, March 31, 2017) In the cross promotion Wimpy had a Ghostbusters II meal box.

On July 2, 2017 ghosthead, collector, and friend David Boozer who runs The Ghostbusters Vault left a comment about owning this very Wimpy meal box. Not to anyones surprise that knows me I replied about scans within a day. On my end, I was weeks from moving out of state.

Fast forward to April 2018 as I approached a milestone birthday. I messaged David (the good in social media) about Wimpy. With more effort than he even probably wanted, David scanned his Wimpy Ghostbusters II meal box and Ghost License.

Kenner The Real Ghostbusters Play-Doh

kennergbsplaydohfun

Like a lot of kids in the ’80s I played with Play-Doh. Back in 1980 something Kenner made it. As a toy company who ruled an empire they didn’t just make soft modeling clay. Not one to trust kids to make whatever they wanted willy nilly Kenner produced play sets. Such as the Fun Factory, ice cream shop, barbershop, fast food restaurant, and arguably (you’re already wrong) the best Play-Doh set of a defining decade, The Real Ghostbusters.

While I don’t remember a single detail about when my parents probably bought me the Play-Doh The Real Ghostbusters play set, I remember having one. Somehow its Ghost trap extruder and plastic Ecto-1 survived, albeit with a broken wheel and eventually missing its hood.
