The Real Ghostbusters 2016 DVDs Volumes 6-10

Back in May ghostheads found out Sony was releasing The Real Ghostbusters volumes 1-5 (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, May 5, 2016) on DVD. They were released to sorta coincide with Ghostbusters: Answer The Call. At under 60 episodes, this re-release was far from complete. TV Shows On DVD found out from their sources volumes 6-10 were coming after Labor Day.

This Tuesday, September 6, 2016 as kids go back to school and in time for The Real Ghostbusters 30th anniversary, volumes 6-10 will be available from your favorite retailer for $14.95 USD, less at Amazon.

Episode Review: Flip Side

flipsidebooyork2

Before Ghostbusters (2016) US release date I thought for fun and a “wink and nod” kind of thing I would review a The Real Ghostbusters episode that could relate to this new Ghostbusters movie. Part of that thinking would have honored an animated Janine who was a Real Ghostbuster when she needed to be. I also thought to review Copycat because of its title and a part where the ghost copies the “no ghost” logo. I also could have reviewed Extreme Ghostbusters final episodes, Back In The Saddle. Either and more episodes from The Real Ghostbusters would have worked.

Then it did “pop in there.” Ghostbusters (2016) marketing (it was in the trailer) has a scene  with one of the new Ghostbusters characters kinda just at a place with a wig on, which at least startles another new Ghostbuster. I remembered a slightly different scene from Flip Side, an episode of The Real Ghostbusters I saw for the first time when I was 10. And I’ve also been wanting to re-watch the episode.

Investigating a bizarre tornado in Central Park, the Ghostbusters are tossed into another dimension, a strange place that is the exact opposite of New York City. In a world populated by ghosts, the heroes must evade capture by their own ghostly counterparts, the human hunting Peoplebusters!

Episode Review: Partners In Slime

104pismoodslime

Last week I couldn’t write a review for THE follow up episode to GHOSTBUSTERS II. Which was a bit of a bummer. After writing a review for Something’s Going Around (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, June 19, 2016) I was a little conflicted. Ghostbusters II will always be special to me. Not just because of the movie. It was the experience, and because of who I saw it with in theaters…on Friday, November 3, 1989.

I wrote my review last week like I could get a doctorate from it. I would do no less for Partners In Slime. I didn’t know if I would this month or for early November. I hadn’t seen Partners In Slime in a long time. To celebrate both Ghostbusters II and The Real Ghostbusters I wouldn’t have wanted to wait until November.

A review also didn’t have to be done today. It is for all the right reasons.Read More »

Episode Review: Something’s Going Around

It’s still the 27 anniversary of Ghostbusters II. If you lived in most of the United States in June 1989 you either did or had a chance to see Ghostbusters II in theaters. I’ve told this story a handful of times. For whatever reason Ghostbusters II didn’t premiere in my smaller geographic area of New Jersey until the first week of November 1989. Yes, its possible it had its US premiere same as everywhere else and had a second promoted release closer to Christmas. I feel as a ghosthead who watched The Real Ghostbusters 6 days a week for years, how would I have missed its original marketing?

This would have made a great weekend to then review Partners In Slime. If it hadn’t been for an earlier 5 season episode, (or the fact this character hadn’t ever been in The Real Ghostbusters up to season 5) I probably just would have reviewed Partners In Slime.Read More »

Episode Review: Captain Steel Saves The Day

captsteelissue

With two of 2016 major superhero blockbusters at theaters back in March (when this episode review would have been a little more current) and right now with a different captain. Along with another Free Comic Book Day in a bag I knew this had to be the week to watch and review The Real Ghostbusters second season episode, Captain Steel Saves The Day.

Through paranormal means, Ray’s favorite comic book character, Captain Steel, comes to life, and crosses paths with the Ghostbusters. When the evil Doctor Destructo also comes to life, a hero team-up may be the only way to save the world.

As always reviewing episodes can be very time consuming. I really enjoyed rewatching Captain Steel Saves The Day and had as much fun as possible with the review.

The Real Ghostbusters Returning to DVD

rgbswatchinggbs2

Today, Sony Pictures announced Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II will be released in ultra 4K high definition (GBI Blog Post, April 4, 2016) blu rays. With Ghostbusters (2016) about three months away, that wasn’t much of a surprise. Although I neither own a 4K TV or player, I’m glad they didn’t leave Ghostbusters II out.

The *real announcement from today’s press release (glad I know people) pertains to The Real Ghostbusters. Its The Real Ghostbusters 30th anniversary and we’re four months into it. Its good to have some (hopefully this won’t just be it) official new merchandise.

Which begins with new The Real Ghostbusters DVDs. According to the press release, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be releasing “over 5o episodes of the iconic 1980s animated series.” This won’t be a re-release of the complete series. How they’ll choose episodes and which ones are to be determined from our point of view.

Either way The Real Ghostbusters has had a complete series release from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Time Life Video. Episodes can also be streamed through Sony’s Crackle website. (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, October 21, 2015)

Press Release:

Also, as part of the excitement surrounding the arrival of the new film, SPHE will release over 50 episodes of the iconic 1980s animated series, The Real Ghostbusters, on DVD July 7 and on Digital, from Ivan Reitman, DiC and Sony Pictures Television.

A Ghostbusters Animated Movie In Development

zinanimationrgbs3d

Their had been talk with the addition of Ghostbusters (2016) (Ghostbusters International Blog Post, October 8, 2014) an animated movie could also be a part of Ghostbusters future. While not officially announced yet from Sony Pictures Animation, The Hollywood Reporter  well reported this week an animated movie has been in development and a director has been hired.

Fletcher Moules, whose been behind the Clash of Clans commercials has been hired to direct. Ivan Reitman who brought Ghostbusters down to earth, directed both films, and is a producer on Ghostbusters (2016) will be one of the producers.

Ghostheads don’t know yet what Ghostbusters (80s, Real, Extreme, (probably not) 2016, etc will be in a new animated movie, what the story will be, and really any animated details. Personally I’d like to see an animated movie with the Ghostbusters that began the franchise in 1984. I’m not saying it has to take place from 1984. Either way I’ll keep an open mind and see what Ghost Corps has in mind. What would you like to see?

Hulu To Stream Extreme Ghostbusters

gbsgetsextreme

This may be extremely (really Rich?) exciting for fans of the Extreme Ghostbusters. In particular if you’re a ghosthead and live in Region 1 where it isn’t available on DVD.

Hulu is set to stream season 1 (the only season) of Extreme Ghostbusters on Tuesday, March 1, 2016.

Personally I haven’t used Hulu in years, long before their was a plus version. I don’t know if the entire season will be available as it could be on other streaming services. Or it’ll just be a premium show. If a ghosthead knows or we find out, I can update this post.

Also as its been a while, (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, October 21, 2015) Sony Pictures streaming service Crackle has continued adding episodes of The Real Ghostbusters to stream. The last episode is season 1’s A Fright At The Opera.

My Ghostbusters II Memories

erniepetersigdanharoldposing

With the addition of Ghostbusters to Ecto-Containment, really the only piece of the Ghostbusters puzzle (you didn’t tell us their were going to more games) was to write my memories of Ghostbusters II. Which would be different from Ghostbusters. Because of age, The Real Ghostbusters, merchandise, and related experiences around Ghostbusters II premiere.
