The Real Ghostbusters Pilot

rgbspilotcap2

Before their could ever be episodes of The Real Ghostbusters something had to be created to show how an animated Ghostbusters series would work. What would the characters look like, what about their personalities? How about the environment around them? What would the equipment look like? What would the ghosts look like?

Prior to September 1986 when an animated spin off was a logical progression (or so it would seem) to the blockbuster Ghostbusters a short pilot was made. This promo, (also later used to advertise The Real Ghostbusters for Saturday mornings) began to give us the universe of The Real Ghostbusters with a short story. All in less then 5 minutes.

As this was before a single episode had been made, their isn’t any dialogue. ‘Ghostbusters’ plays throughout.

Japanese Magazine Quanto Issue 269

quantoapril12issue269

Last month Matthew Jordan from Ghostbusters Wiki shared scans he had from a Japanese hobby/toy magazine (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, December 12, 2015) called Quanto.

At the time all we had were photos of scans which weren’t all full pages. Ghosthead and member of NYC Ghostbusters Christopher Beaumont added a cover image from an eBay auction. If that was it, I’d still be happy I found out about Quanto and see what and how they advertised Ghostbusters.

Fortunately for ghostheads copies were available to purchase. Christopher Beaumont was able to get Issue 269 from April 2011. This past week Christopher uploaded his scans to the NYC Ghostbusters Facebook page.Read More »

Japanese Magazine Quanto Ghostbusters Advertising

A Japanese toy and hobby magazine called Quanto, (no exact English translation that I’m aware of, if it isn’t Spanish) had a 2011 issue where they had photos of Ghostbusters merchandise from Diamond Select Toys, Factory Entertainment, Hot Wheels, Matty Collector, Rubies, and whomever has a license for Ghostbusters t-shirts in Japan.

Matthew Jordan who oversees Ghostbusters Wiki shared the scans he had. It’s possible I had seen the scans before this week as I had a slight dejá vu feeling about it. With my interests in Japanese culture and international Ghostbusters merchandise I wanted to know more.

Ghosthead and member of NYC Ghostbusters Christopher Beaumont added a cover image from an eBay auction and provided additional information.

In the meantime Matthew shared an article with two videos about the photo shoot for this issue of Quanto.

Print Isn’t Dead, It Moved From The Basement To Upstairs

rgbmagcovers

About two months ago as I was working on the Ghostbusters NYC website (also known for web site purposes as Ghostbusters Firehouse) I decided to begin moving the once scanned/current PDF files of Ghostbusters/The Real Ghostbusters reading material to Ghostbusters Firehouse for realism and to save space at Ecto-Containment.

Every smaller PDF file wasn’t complete in February. Something I hadn’t realized during most of the uploads. Naturally as is the case when one runs multiple web sites, that project had to be put on hold. I became busier with at least one other Ghostbusters “thing”, the franchise I’m part of, Ghostbusters NJ.

As I looked ahead to getting back to all the Ghostbusters sites I run it was Easter. Within a week I was preparing to go on vacation. I had a great time, thanks for asking. 🙂Read More »

Ghostbusters Japanese Movie Program Merchandise

gbsjapaneseprogramcover

Yesterday I wrote about and shared our Ghostbusters Japanese Movie Program. If you were wondering I don’t have a Ghostbusters II Japanese program to archive and share. Today I wanted to discuss (well talk about) that internationally Ghostbusters merchandise and collecting was ahead of its time (or got the ball rolling…wait, was their a Ghostbusters ball?) compared to GHOSTBUSTERS™ merchandise in the North American markets.

gbsjapaneseprograminsidecover

With GHOSTBUSTERS™ rushed production schedule and narrow minded executive thinking, movie suits couldn’t see much of a market for Ghostbusters. Thankfully (though not for our wallets) that would change in the next three decades.

The best we had early on was the official fan club, (GBI) followed by cereal. Of course their was the usual merchandise. i.e.: t-shirts, vinyl records and tapes, and your new dinnerware. (GBI)

North American ghostheads couldn’t have imagined they would have wanted nor possibly needed more functional Ghostbusters merchandise.

Beyond the soundtrack and Ray Parker Jr. were an assortment of logo t-shirts, a sweatshirt, and two choices of baseball caps/hats. Sweet, wait their’s more!

ゴーストバスターズ映画プログラム Ghostbusters Japanese Movie Program

Note: Originally written for Ghostbusters Inc. in 2015 as part of an unofficial Japanese Ghostbusters month.

gbsjapaneseprogramcover

Ghostbusters Incorporated’s unofficial Japanese Ghostbusters month continues with a ゴーストバスターズ映画プログラム. Or Ghostbusters Japanese Movie Program.

By the way, if you speak and/or read Japanese and know Google Translate got it wrong, its ok to laugh. We’re just trying something here for Ghostbusters and some level of effectiveness.

I don’t personally know about these days, during the ’80s if you saw GHOSTBUSTERS™ or GHOSTBUSTERS II™ in a Japanese movie theater you’d receive a movie program. Which maybe was or wasn’t meant to be collectible.

The glossy pages Ghostbusters program is more like a magazine. With articles for just about every aspect of Ghostbusters. With great photos overall to accompany the information.

Kenner’s The Real Ghostbusters Ghost Center

rgbghostcenter

Ghosthead and toy collector JBlake shared corporate Kenner The Real Ghostbusters display images. The pictures were to show employees and retailers how The Real Ghostbusters merchandise should or can be displayed. I don’t personally recall seeing any of this at the chain toy stores I’d frequent (well as much as I could) during the ’80s.

I have a hard time believing I wouldn’t have remembered being at The Real Ghostbusters Ghost Center.Read More »

Kenner Ghost Nabber Photos

ghostnabberboxsde

In the middle of November 2014 their was a (geographically speaking) a really local comic book show. Its kinda a con, the organizers call it a show. Unbeknownst to me, this same show was held last year in my town at the same place. As the Jersey Shore Comic Book Show was coming up I knew I’d be there with my Ghostbusters franchise and friends from a second New Jersey franchise.

I thought as this con was local, more fun, less kind of pressure then a major con I could mix up the equipment and bring (and wear) some of my Kenner The Real Ghostbusters toys.Read More »

Kenner Ghost Trap Photos

ghostrapboxside

I bought this Kenner Ghost Trap in 2011. It had never been open until February 10, 2012. Which is around when I created a photo album using former Ecto-Containment software. When I switched software and hosting companies the album didn’t make the move. I had always intended to share the pictures again. Two years later I have again.Read More »

Matty Collector Ghost Trap Un-Boxing From 2012

mattytrapmailercrateboxtease

On October 17, 2011 Matty Collector brought ghostheads the second officially licensed Ghostbusters™ prop toy, the Ghost Trap. The first was the P.K.E Meter, which originally went on sale in December 2010. During that October Ghostbusters retail wise, Mattel had made a somewhat odd decision to sell expensive new Ghostbusters collectibles at the same time. I always felt they should have been spread out over a quarter. Personally I couldn’t afford what I wanted, which included a brand new sealed in box collectible Ghost Trap.

As the year the Earth was suppose to be destroyed by ancient culture’s beliefs began I was finally ready to buy a Matty Collector Ghost Trap from the source. I couldn’t because they were finally sold out. Not in a Mattel’s poor business practice way either. Fortunately their were some alternatives, I really didn’t want to pay a secondary or third party mark up.Read More »

30th Anniversary: Ghostbusters Movie Media

gbmediaevowide

Over on my collecting blog/site, iRich I’ve written (moved to Ecto-Containment) a “30th Anniversary” post about my Ghostbusters media (format) collection. Originally I didn’t know if writing about old media could be that interesting. It brought back a lot of memories others can certainly relate to, even if its not about Ghostbusters. It also took me about three days to prepare and write.

Throughout Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary (which could be any day during 2014) if I write a collecting post that’s more Ghostbusters related then The Real Ghostbusters related, it can be found at Rich Collectibles. I’ll try not to wait almost two weeks to talk about it on Ecto-Containment.

If you’re interested in my other aspects of Ghostbusters collecting (and talking about Ghostbusters) I’ve written about how I became an ghosthead, the franchise I’m apart of, the Ghostbusters costume/uniform I’m putting together, and from 2013 and now 2014 toys/toy prop reviews which have been extensively written about and documented through Ecto-Containment.
