Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Trailers

It’s been a journey to be able to get back to making Ecto-Containment updated in some way. I haven’t been living under a river of slime. Oh I know Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (Official Site) is currently in theaters. I’m really looking forward to this experience on Sunday afternoon. When Frozen Empire was getting closer, I avoided international trailers, TV spots, most print material, cast interviews, and any site/social media talking about this latest Ghostbusters movie.

To keep Ecto-Containment something current I wanted to post Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire trailers as a starting point. More trailers and anything else around the movie could come later. I have missed writing and working on the sites.

Rich Review: Ghostbusters Afterlife Cereal

When I heard a new Ghostbusters cereal was coming this year, I knew if I could, I’d want to buy a box. To bring back the most nostalgia since the original, (Ecto-Containment Biog Post: October 8, 2014) collect the box, eat it, (the cereal) and review it.

As a ghosthead and occasional collector these days, I know how these things can go. While this new Ghostbusters cereal isn’t a retail exclusive, it probably won’t be around when Afterlife is actually in theaters. I knew not every store will carry this fan cereal. That’s the case as of this post. Based on using General Mills product locator, ghostheads social media posts and inquiries I’ve made to two major grocery retailers.

While I was feeling the excitement of being a ghosthead, I searched a “popular auction site” for this very cereal. Not to any ghosthead’s surprise scalpers were asking up to $50 for a box! A bit more searching through and I came across a superstore that sells food products. Directory Lanes had sold dozens of Ghostbusters Afterlife cereal for $11 USD before shipping. For that price I wouldn’t have to check every store in North Carolina for a new Ghostbusters food product!

It took 5 days to have Ghostbusters Afterlife cereal in my hands.

Ghostbusters Cereal To Return

If you believe Walmart, (cereal listing) Ghostbusters cereal (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, October 8, 2014) is returning in time for GHOSTBUSTERS Afterlife. (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, January 2, 2020) Which this year, would have been at the earliest June 11, 2021.

Recently Sony Pictures pushed Ghostbusters Afterlife to November 11, 2021. While some related toys and collectibles have been released, I feel a cereal tie in will be on shelves about the time of the to be determined theatrical release.

Ghostbusters Afterlife cereal is to be made by General Mills. By the (probably not final artwork) I hope the “Kix” balls are stawberry flavor. Which is what Funko Stay-Puft cereal should have tasted like.

If I can find/buy a box at a grocery store I’ll most likely review it.

Ghostbusters Cereal Coupons

On December 14, 2020 Robert Maxwell Barbieri aka Bobby Eighties (Facebook) posted “vintage Ghostbusters scrapbook material.” Once I saw Bobby’s photos I had to ask about sharing his Ghostbusters Cereal (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, October 8, 2014) coupons. After taking close up photos, editing, a new month, year, and a few cosmetic changes (so far) to Ecto-Containment, I’m happy to co-present 37 year old Ghostbusters cereal coupons in color!

Earlier in the twenty teens I had only seen black and white versions. They originally came from newspapers during the 1980s. Most likely shared by Matthew Jordan of Ghostbusters Wiki. I’ve been wanting to see and share these coupons as I believe I remembered from childhood.

Bobby’s coupons go beyond cereal. Premiums, (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, October 20, 2014) Sweepstakes, (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, October 25, 2014) Stay-Puft apparel, and Toys ‘R Us.

Ads and coupons are mostly in chronological order from dates listed.

Early proof Kraft should have licensed the Stay-Puft brand.

Kenner The Real Ghostbusters 1988 Toy Fair Display

toyfair88pic6.jpg

Three weeks ago toy author and collector Matt George of Geeks Antiques (Instagram) posted photos of Kenner The Real Ghostbusters toys from Toy Fair in 1988. In a time before social media, not everybody could have been there or seen this kind of presentation.

While this sweet event was in in progress, I was probably 11. It would have been awesome to have seen these photos in real life. In my 4th decade of life, it’s still pretty great. The above photo is probably the entrance to a room with a treasure trove of The Real Ghostbusters toys. Kenner could have just put some type of movie version of Ghostbusters HQ up. No, they built part of an accurate The Real Ghostbusters Firehouse play set!

toyfair88pic4.jpg

Once inside the partial 1:1 scale (I’m guessing) Kenner Firehouse attendees would see photos like the one above. It’s an “overflowing” river of slime with the then unknown spoiler of the Statue Of Liberty from Ghostbusters II featuring then current and upcoming The Real Ghostbusters figures. That’s some display, a shame Kenner didn’t make a play set from that!

I won’t post the rest of Matt’s photos here. They can be seen at his Instagram account, Geeks Antiques.

GBI Is Across Your Cities

Originally posted on January 2, 2020 at Ghostbusters International.

Ghostbusters International and an affiliated franchise are most likely already in your city. And easily accessible through your internet or telecommunications provider. As its been a number of years since GBI as a company and club has had a domain name, the time is right for GBI to not just have a dot wordpress dot com url.

It’s 2020, twenty twenty. Let that sink in. The GHOSTBUSTERS™ franchise celebrates it’s 36th anniversary by welcoming a continuation and a sequel of the original films with Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Obligatory plug: Coming to theaters on July 10, 2020. Directed by Jason Reitman. And all a new Ghostbusters film will bring to ghostheads.

I’ve wanted GBI to have a new domain name, it had to be the “right one.” And personally it had to feel right as well. I didn’t need to just celebrate the 35th anniversary by also having a domain name again for GBI.

This year it’s better early on to have a new domain name for Ghostbusters International, for Ghostbusters: Afterlife premiere, theatrical releases, and home video releases. With that, in digital text Ghostbusters International new dot com is:

Playmobil’s Recreation Of The Real Ghostbusters Opening

playmobilrgbsopeningcap.png

Maybe a coincidence. :p Reckless Abandonment Pictures produced and published their stop motion tribute (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, October 8, 2019) to The Real Ghostbusters. Ten days later in time for Halloween Playmobil has released their animation version (naturally in the Playmobil style/universe style) of the iconic The Real Ghostbusters opening.

Like with Playmobil’s Ghostbusters animation, (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, February 2, 2017) ghostheads wonder if Playmobil and Sony Pictures Animation will ever make a full length Ghostbusters/The Real Ghostbusters animated movie(s).

Original Ghostbusters And Ghostbusters II Novelizations To Be Reprinted In 2020

Not to be outdone by Ghostbusters Legacy, (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, October 11, 2019) another book publisher, Titan Books will be publishing an omnibus Ghostbusters novel.

Before the internet was a kid, movies like Ghostbusters would have a novel attached to it. In the United States, the novelization of Ghostbusters was written by Richard Mueller. Mr. Mueller would also write 23 episodes of The Real Ghostbusters over the course of 7 seasons.

Ghostbusters II also had a novelization when the internet was text based and required a landline. The US version was written by Ed Naha.

Both (or all versions) physical Ghostbusters novelizations are long out of print. Thanks to ghostheads preservation of out of print material, digital copies are available at Spook Central.

What if you want to own a new book smell copy of both Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II novelizations together? For the first time (probably) in 35/36 years Titan Books in plenty of time for Rust City has ghostheads covered in black slime, uh ink.

Ghostbusters Legacy: The Making Of Ghostbusters And Ghostbusters II Coming In 2020

gbslegacynotfinalartjpg.jpg

This news isn’t completely out of left field. It makes sense with Ghostbusters 2020 aka code name Rust City on the spectral horizon that Sony and a publisher would put together a new making of Ghostbusters book.

Nothing can replace Making Ghostbusters by Don Shay. It’s decades out of print, a physical copy can be pricey, and fortunately for ghostheads is available digitally…for free. (Spook Central PDF file)

Their isn’t a making of Ghostbusters II book like for Ghostbusters. Outside of out of print magazine articles from the 1980s.

During and after Ghostbusters 30th anniversary Insight Editions published Ghostbusters: The Ultimate Visual History (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, October 24, 2015) by Daniel Wallace. That coffee table book pretty much covered every aspect of the Ghostbusters franchise. Both with words and visuals. 8)

It may not be out of print, I haven’t checked. I know within the last month I’ve seen multiple copies at Barnes & Noble.

Not everybody can, does, or will own either excellent book. What will Ghostbusters Legacy bring to the Ghostbusters franchise in 2020?

Eaglemoss/Hero Collector press release after the break.
