Full Disclosure: I don’t own any apparel from Naked & Famous Denim. I basically wanted to talk about their licensed products with my opinions.
On October 21, 201.. (different franchise) Canadian apparel company Naked & Famous Denim released their line of at times Japanese inspired (I think) Ghostbusters apparel. “That’s cool.” I had never heard of them and shrugged them off as another expensive brand kinda slapping Ghostbusters on their jean jackets.
The expensive part is true unless you own two televisions. The designs where applicable are Ghostbusters and The Real Ghostbusters inspired. I love that licensed Ghostbusters apparel exists, why (like non character clothing) does owning a certain look I like have to be out of reach?
Of course one could buy a less expensive pair of jeans and sew a GB patch into it. Or customize it (please, no bedazzling) until you’re happy.
That’s the non original idea I’ve had forever for a Ghostbusters black trucker style denim jacket I’ve owned for years. My version would basically have a large “no ghost” logo on the back and a Ghostbusters personal name patch (probably) somewhere on the front.
Naked & Famous offers that Club Jacket in a way for nearly $400 USD. After the jump, a description of Naked & Famous Ghostbusters collection with their Ghostbusters apparel.
Naked & Famous Denim X Ghostbusters®
The collection features unique fabrics inspired by the classic 1984 film Ghostbusters®. The first jean, named “Slimer Denim”, is made with a fully glow-in-the-dark stretch denim, which turns a ectoplasmic green color in the dark. The second style of jeans, dubbed the “Supernatural Selvedge”, is a beautiful dark indigo Japanese selvedge denim with glow-in-the-dark selvedge edges. Two black selvedge denim jackets round out the offering; each featuring a large custom chenille patch on the back.
Part Of The Products Descriptions
In the style of vintage motorcycle club jackets, this blackout 13oz Japanese selvedge denim jacket features the plushest chenille embroidery. The classic ‘No Ghost’ logo in stark red, black, and white is tufted with incredible depth. The same attention is paid to the text “I AIN’T AFRAID OF NO GHOST” emblazoned around the ‘No Ghost’ logo. These Made in Canada chenille patches are high quality thick pieces.
An oversized embroidered chenille patch shows Slimer from ‘The Real Ghostbusters’ having just raided a hot dog stand, green… relish… dripping from the dog, his tongue hanging out, his four teeth grinning. Varying embroidery methods render Slimer in plush 3-D. The glow-in-the-dark proprietary Slimer leather patch is sewn on the inside at the neck. The jacket itself is made from 13oz solid black selvedge Japanese denim with a red line selvedge ID.
Part Of The Products Descriptions
This 11oz rope-dyed indigo denim is woven on vintage Japanese shuttle looms and finished with a selvedge ID coated in chemiluminescent phosphors that glow in the dark when charged with direct light or under blacklight. Check out the selvedge ID on the coin pocket and when you cuff your jeans.
Indigo denim coated in phosphors, these jeans glow under black lights or in the dark having been charged in direct light. Nuclear fades anyone? The phosphors coating will chip away, so the longer and harder you wear these, the more they’ll show your unique glowing fade pattern. Under the coating, the denim is rope-dyed in indigo, which will also fade to reflect how you’ve worn them.
I can’t say I would never own any of these apparel items. As always non Ghostbusters priorities first. If I customize that jacket I’ll write about it with photos.
