Ghostbusters: The Video Game Now One Better

Last year Ghostbusters Sanctum of Slime (Ecto-Containment Post, April 28, 2016) became backwards compatible believe it or not before Ghostbusters: The Video Game. In what Ghostbusters universe were we all living in?

That’s right, we were living in the past. In 2017 when ghostheads have prevented interdimensional breaches from reopening, we return to a memorable time when we can once again play Ghostbusters: The Video Game. This time not just on a once expensive aging console.

If you own an xBox One, Ghostbusters: The Video Game is backwards compatible. You should be able to find it in the Marketplace if you don’t have a copy of the physical game.

I’ve been meaning to write this post before today. I held off because its difficult and very personal. In other posts where I say its personal, it can be vague. I don’t generally like to publicize my personal life. I’ve whenever I could kept my personal life separate from Ghostbusters. Through the years they’ve sometimes been connected. I feel as a courtesy, for the support you’ve shown the sites over the years, and a need to write I would provide a personal update.

Internal Kenner Ecto-1 Photo Print

Before their could ever be a The Real Ghostbusters version of ECTO-1 from Kenner, their had to be a prototype and approval from guys in casual apparel.

An internal photo print of said prototype was posted by the Facebook group, Ghostbusters Incorporated Worldwide. This proto Ecto-1 is based off the The Real Ghostbusters promo. It still looks cool, feels delicate and doesn’t appear it would fit a single figure, let alone three. Remember a Real Ghostbuster of your choosing usually sat in the gunner chair up on the roof of Ecto-1.

I wonder if internal photos of proto first series hero figures are out there.

Episode Review: Slimer, Come Home

Personal events during recent Septembers had me feeling like it would have been too personal to review The Real Ghostbusters first season episode, Slimer, Come Home. After re-watching episode 4 yesterday and being reminded its a children’s cartoon, it might have been okay.

I didn’t plan it this way last week, by reviewing Troll Bridge, then coming back to Slimer, Come Home I reviewed an episode 30 years later from its original air date. It might be a really long time before this ever happens again. Or sometime in November.

This week The Real Ghostbusters are having a busy week dealing with poltergeists and making big party plans for Winston’s birthday. If The Real Ghostbusters didn’t have enough to do, Slimer takes off, (not for his spin off show…yet) and needs some help from the team.

Episode Review: Troll Bridge

Six years ago next week became one of the hardest and saddest times in my life. Last year in this week a different hard and sad time in my life began.

This year with The Real Ghostbusters 30th anniversary at times would like to watch and review episodes in order. That episode this time around would have been Slimer, Come Home. In my head it felt like it’d be sad for me, maybe a little much. I want to go back to episode 4 from season 1 soon as I’m up to it.

Today I preferred to watch the next memorable episode, dealing with trolls in NYC. How will The Real Ghostbusters handle them if they can’t exactly use their proton throwers?

The Real Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary

30 years ago today The Real Ghostbusters aired to the delight of ghostheads. Episode 1, the infamous Ghosts ‘ R Us is somewhat of a origin story and in 21 minutes explains why they’re The Real Ghostbusters!

For 7 seasons our animated Ghostbustin’ heroes went on adventures (along with originally that green guy) 6 days a week. The guys couldn’t do it alone. Janine not only ran the office, (equipment not standard at other offices) when the need arose was a Ghostbuster in her own right. With animated business mostly good on and off screen Louis would join the team to handle the fictional records. And continue practicing his Ghostbusters skills.

Episode Review: Ain’t NASA-sarily So

This week officially marked the 50th anniversary of Star Trek. The iconic science fiction show was entering adulthood when The Real Ghostbusters was still in its infancy. Thirty years later, The Real Ghostbusters is pretty much as beloved as Star Trek.

On November 17, 1987 episode 24, Ain’t NASA-sarily So aired. Written by Craig Miller and Mark Nelson, it directly referenced Star Trek in fun ways.

Unless you were already a Trekkie/Trekker or knew someone in your family, most the references went out into space. That was the certainly the case of me, as I was 9 years old. I was probably aware of Star Trek, I knew very little about it. It would be about a year or so before I would have watched a Star Trek movie. It wouldn’t be until 1993 where I was able to watch my first complete Star Trek series on a weekly basis. I was well into adulthood when I watched the original series in order.

The Real Ghostbusters Pilot

Before their could ever be episodes of The Real Ghostbusters something had to be created to show how an animated Ghostbusters series would work. What would the characters look like, what about their personalities? How about the environment around them? What would the equipment look like? What would the ghosts look like?

Prior to September 1986 when an animated spin off was a logical progression (or so it would seem) to the blockbuster Ghostbusters a short pilot was made. This promo, (also later used to advertise The Real Ghostbusters for Saturday mornings) began to give us the universe of The Real Ghostbusters with a short story. All in less then 5 minutes.

As this was before a single episode had been made, their isn’t any dialogue. ‘Ghostbusters’ plays throughout.

The Real Ghostbusters 2016 DVDs Volumes 6-10

Back in May ghostheads found out Sony was releasing The Real Ghostbusters volumes 1-5 (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, May 5, 2016) on DVD. They were released to sorta coincide with Ghostbusters: Answer The Call. At under 60 episodes, this re-release was far from complete. TV Shows On DVD found out from their sources volumes 6-10 were coming after Labor Day.

This Tuesday, September 6, 2016 as kids go back to school and in time for The Real Ghostbusters 30th anniversary, volumes 6-10 will be available from your favorite retailer for $14.95 USD, less at Amazon.

Ghostbusters Funko Pop Movies 3 Pack

Back in May Funko showed off upcoming Funko products. (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, May 20, 2016) Maybe to the surprise of ghostheads, their was to be a new Ghostbusters Pop! Movies collectible! Not just one figure either. Fans wouldn’t have to buy them separately. However, ghostheads would have to buy them from Walmart as this 3 pack would be there exclusive.

My nearest location barely carries Pops! and other nerd collectibles. Seeing how they didn’t seem to carry summer 2016 Ghostbusters toys, I knew I wouldn’t see this 2.5 miles from my house. I went to order from the blue stores site. On the first try they were sold out. One day weeks later when I was being responsible keeping ECU running my friend let me know these were in stock. I was able to avoid the inconvenience of trying to go to another location and buy from secondary/third markets too.

Same friend (who is a Funko Pops! collector) and I placed an order. After I received mine via mail (to further avoid the blue store) and the day he was expecting his, a Walmart he was at (in New Jersey) had 10 of them. :O
