Wimpy Ghostbusters II Meal Box

wimpygbs2mealboxclose

Last year I wrote about fast food chain Wimpy and their Ghostbusters II commercial. (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, March 31, 2017) In the cross promotion Wimpy had a Ghostbusters II meal box.

On July 2, 2017 ghosthead, collector, and friend David Boozer who runs The Ghostbusters Vault left a comment about owning this very Wimpy meal box. Not to anyones surprise that knows me I replied about scans within a day. On my end, I was weeks from moving out of state.

Fast forward to April 2018 as I approached a milestone birthday. I messaged David (the good in social media) about Wimpy. With more effort than he even probably wanted, David scanned his Wimpy Ghostbusters II meal box and Ghost License.

Matty Collector PKE Photos

mattypkecratetop

In December 2010 Matty Collector began getting into producing functioning Ghostbusters “props.” Which I’ve called prop toys in comparison to ghostheads who have the “tools and the talent” to build their own. I’m not one of those ghostheads. I was probably happy to be able to buy the first Ghostbusters tool we see used in Ghostbusters.

December 2010 was technically before Ecto-Containment existed. I wasn’t writing first impressions or Rich Reviews. With Matty Collector prop toys I wouldn’t for at least a couple more years. By then I didn’t see a need to review this P.K.E Meter. I did want to share photos on Ecto-Containment.

In July 2017 as I was moving and selling parts of my collection, I took a dozen photos. Nearly seven years later to its release I’m getting around to sharing photos.

Playmobil US Ghostbusters TV Spots

playmobilgbstvspot

I haven’t had satellite in more than a year. Even if I did I wouldn’t have been watching a network of cartoons. Paul R. from Spook Central (Facebook) was and saw a TV spot for Playmobil (US) Ghostbusters sets.

A bit odd, the US version isn’t on Playmobil (YouTube) channel. Although the UK version is. Paul found the US version at iSpot.

Playmobil (US) has shared a commercial for their Ghostbusters play sets. The commercial is a mix of German and a little English.

Ecto-Containing Laser Video

At the very end of January, Paul R. from Spook Central shared a Ghostbusters video in part as ghosthead Lanny White had asked him for it. Prior, I had a lesser quality copy which I had kinda forgotten about.

SFX Museum Vol. 1 is part of a feature that’s on the Japanese Laserdisc version of Ghostbusters. I don’t personally know if was featured on any North American Ghostbusters Laserdiscs.

The SFX feature is in English with Japanese subtitles. The four interviews in the feature talk about Ghostbusters special effects with Ivan Reitman, Michael C. Gross, Richard Edlund, and John Bruno.

With permission I’ve uploaded SFX Museum Vol. 1 to Ecto-Containment’s YouTube channel. It’s also under the newly created Lasers page.

Ecto-Containing Videos

I’ve been watching Ghostbusters videos on-line for at least seventeen years. When it became possible to save said videos in the 21 Century I would when possible. Adding them with just enough organization to multiple Ghostbusters folders either on my computers, former diskettes, and CD-Rs.

I want to share what I’ve collected and organize it on-line for ghostheads through Ecto-Containment’s YouTube channel for historical and entertainment value.

Handy Disclaimer

I don’t imply any ownership of these videos. I presume copyright is held by current media companies. If videos need to be removed, I can certainly do that.

Empire Ghostbusters Magazine PDFs

empirejune16cov

So 5 days ago I scanned my physical copy of Empire UK from June 2016. As in my search beforehand I didn’t come across a free digital version. My scans were the covers, inside content, and thankfully just the Ghostbusters articles. After converting the files into pretty high-res and very large PDFs they were added (Ghostbusters Firehouse Blog Post, April 15, 2017) to Ghostbusters Firehouse.

Unbeknownst to me and I’m guessing most ghostheads the real, full PDF from Empire UK, June 2016 had been added to some archive of internet. I only found that out after Paul R. from Spook Central sent me an email.

Ghostheads usually can improve on what’s already been done.

Mad, Cracked, And People Weekly Added To Ghostbusters Firehouse

madgrossbusters2cov

Recently after writing about UK fast food franchise Wimpy and their Ghostbusters II kids meal commercial (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, March 31, 2017) I was wondering if ghostheads had a digital copy of UK magazine Empire from June 2016. That also had me thinking about MAD Movie Classics (Ghostbusters Firehouse Blog Post, February 7, 2015) special. I asked at Ecto-Containment’s Facebook page if someone had a digital copy of either publication. While their hasn’t been an exact match yet, ghosthead Alex Newborn shared scans from one of his Facebook albums.

Within the one album were scans of Ghostbusters articles from People WeeklyCracked, and MAD magazines. With Alex Newborn’s permission I’ve saved the files, cleaned them up some where necessary and made PDF files of just the Ghostbusters periodicals.

Six new magazines have been added to the Magazine Rack. (Ghostbusters Firehouse) Where I’ve organized magazines, comics, a coloring book, and more by month and year. Some exceptions apply with Ghostbusters: The Video Game. (Ghostbusters Firehouse)

Wimpy Ghostbusters II Commercial

wimpygbs2kidsmeal

Wimpy, originally Wimpy Grills is an international fast food chain that surprisingly, (to me) was founded in Bloomington, Indiana by Edward Gold during 1934. Why the recent surprise to me? Growing up on the east coast of the United States I had never heard of Wimpy. The oldest fast food chain, (which is also not in all 50 United States) that I knew of is White Castle.

Wimpy, (yes named after the Popeye character) once had 25 restaurants in midwestern US cities. By 1977 there were only 7 locations. When Edward Gold passed on the following year, the remaining US locations closed there doors.

That would have been it and I wouldn’t be writing about them today. If it hadn’t been for some foresight. Mr. Edward Gold licensed to J. Lyons and Co. back in 1954 to open Wimpy restaurants in the United Kingdom. McDonalds and Burger King were infants.

In the 1960s Wimpy had expanded to other European countries and eventually other continents. Today Wimpy parent company, Famous Brands Limited has its headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa.

That’s why 11 years later as adults and kids were making Ghostbusters II memories at Hardee’s, (Ecto–Containment Blog Post, March 25, 2017) ghostheads in the United Kingdom (and hopefully abroad) also made Ghostbusters II memories at Wimpy locations.

Hardee’s Ghostbusters II Commercial

hardeesgb2comcounter.jpg

Three years ago, almost to the day I wrote about my Hardee’s Ghostbusters II Banner. (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, March 23, 2014) In my post I had shared a copy of Hardee’s Ghostbusters II commercial to my very basic YouTube channel. I eventually wanted to talk more about this Ghostbusters II fast food cross promotion.

Why now? Last weekend I sold a friend of mine the only Hardee’s Ghostbusters II Banner for sale that I knew of. I hadn’t been displaying this official piece of Ghostbusters II history. He probably will, maybe even at franchise events. That could be great for the “Official Ghostbusters II Headquarters” banner to have such a Ghostbusters purpose again.

I’m not sure why Hardee’s was chosen over other national United States fast food chains. I find it hard to believe there were more Hardee’s locations in the USA over McDonalds or Burger King. Perhaps it was financial or Hardee’s was closer to Columbia Pictures.

On a slight side note, McDonalds in Canada had at least Ghostbusters II tray liners/place mats.

As previously stated I was deprived of going to a fast food chain that celebrated Ghostbusters II. Other than what was my banner I can live vicarlously though Hardee’s blockbuster commercial.
