30th Anniversary: Ghostbusters Funko Pop! Movies Peter Venkman

In August I wrote about the Funko Pop! Movies Ghostbusters vinyl figures I had bought from Barnes & Noble and Amazon. I was missing a stand alone Pop! Movies Ghostbuster. To explain the absence I said:

Pop! Dr. Venkman was unavailable as he was looking for a non existent Dana as Gatekeeper Pop!

I knew I’d be receiving a Pop! Movies Dr. Peter Venkman (104) as a gift. With Christmas come and gone, I not only received a Pop! Movies Dr. Peter Venkman, other Funko Pop! Ghostbusters figures as well.🙂

Save Your Neighborhood In Your 1980s Something The Real Ghostbusters Apparel

Since writing about that mysterious ’80s popular characters mail order catalog, ghosthead Lanny D remembered where we could order that catalog from, NOW comics The Real Ghostbusters title. That would make sense as I (or possibly with help) had to order that catalog from somewhere. Fortunately too, I scanned every issue from my NOW comics (Ecto-Containment) The Real Ghostbusters collection for digital preservation to share with other fans.

I was going trough the scans and found an ad from Creative Characters.

Save The World In Your 1980s Ghostbusters Jump Suit

During the ’80s (near the end of an era) I remember a black and white (their could have been color, but why would a mail order company spend the extra dollars?) catalog where you could order at least a kids official Ghostbusters costume. I can vividly remember coming home from school that day and being excited when “the catalog” was in my family’s mailbox. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was starting to overtake Ghostbusters popularity. I remember seeing TMNT being featured before The Real Ghostbusters for example.

I admit my memory’s fuzzy on which part of the franchise you could order from. i.e.: Ghostbusters, The Real Ghostbusters, Other. I’m not entirely sure how I heard about the catalog in the first place.

By the time the catalog arrived I already had a short sleeved flight suit. Family members made me at least a “no ghost” patch. Not sure about a name patch. That mail order catalog may have had a few other “no ghost” logo items for sale.

I’ve never seen the catalog since or any ad for these costume flight suits. Yesterday I got a glimpse that some company actually existed to make these and they advertised. Doesn’t everybody?

Who they gonna call? They’re gonna call you-in your Official Ghostbusters Jumpsuit! And when Gozer or the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man come out of the night-there you’ll be!

Your Ghostbusters Jumpsuit comes in classy khaki for adults with children’s sizes in midnight black. The Ghostbusters logo appears on the back, with a Ghostbusters insignia on the right sleeve and the name Ghostbusters on the front-right.

Ghostbusters Jumpsuits are the highest quality 65% polyester and 35% cotton. Machine washable.

If Funko Were To Make The Real Ghostbusters Pops!

poplogoword

I haven’t really wondered what The Real Ghostbusters figures could look like if Funko were to make them. I’ve been more concerned with trying to complete the actual Ghostbusters Movie Pops! (iRich) figures.

I did think by now we would have heard Funko could be releasing Janine, (Ghostbusters) Dana, (probably as Gatekeeper) and Louis. Again, probably as his Keymaster version.

While I’ve slowly been collecting Ghostbusters Movie Pops and thinking of more Ghostbusters Pops, ghosthead Austin Brooks was busy designing would be The Real Ghostbusters Pops!.Read More »

Brickin It! Ghostbusters ‘Villain’ LEGOs

Australian based company Brickin It, who makes custom Lego mini figures is taking pre-orders for the “New York Terror Team.” That may sound like some elite delta supernatural battln’ Ghostbusters team. The terror isn’t that Ghostbusters legos are putting the fear in yellow plastic, just the opposite really.Read More »

Kenner’s The Real Ghostbusters Ghost Center

rgbghostcenter

Ghosthead and toy collector JBlake shared corporate Kenner The Real Ghostbusters display images. The pictures were to show employees and retailers how The Real Ghostbusters merchandise should or can be displayed. I don’t personally recall seeing any of this at the chain toy stores I’d frequent (well as much as I could) during the ’80s.

I have a hard time believing I wouldn’t have remembered being at The Real Ghostbusters Ghost Center.Read More »

NES Ghostbusters, Now You’re Playing With (Proton) Power

While I had a lot of fun with the families Atari, (and earlier game consoles that pre-date Ghostbusters, can’t even imagine) their was still more fun to be had with the Nintendo Entertainment System or as the cool kids still say (back in 1988) NES.

My earliest memories of Nintendo came from my downstairs neighbors. Their were two sons, one closer in age and was kinda my friend. One of those kid friendship kinda things. One day while visiting I guess him and his older brother (also in his kid hood) were playing their NES (the one that came with R.O.B!) and naturally (or it was coincidental) the game was Super Mario Brothers.

While I may have played Mario Brothers in an arcade, I had never experienced a Nintendo. They hadn’t popped up around my class (or school) like Piranha Plants. My gaming graphics were the blocks of Atari (the cover artwork was a thing of beauty) and the monochrome blocks of Intellivision from a much earlier childhood.

I don’t remember if I had to have one immediately. Even if I thought I did, my parents resisted until they couldn’t any more. 😀 I didn’t really need one, fortunately my then neighbors one house over who were more like family also had children. Their sons were even older, the one who was much closer to my age (he may have been almost a teen) had a NES (without R.O.B) and plenty of hours were wasted, um well spent developing all kinds of necessary skills for life.

In either 1987 or sometime in 1988 my parents finally would bestow upon me my very own Nintendo Entertainment System! This was the big gift, the kind of gift you pretty much would get for either a birthday or Christmas. I’m a little fuzzy on the exact month and year. I feel like it was a Christmas present because if I believe the internet my “action set” included the NES with controllers, NES Zapper, (which I still have) and Super Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt cartridge. If we all patiently waited I could have had a “Power Set” bundle instead. I blame Nintendo, even 26 years later.

The Real Ghostbusters & TMNT Battle

By now ghostheads (well most of us) have been reading IDW’s Ghostbusters/TMNT cross over mini series (GB Inc.) What if their was crossover artwork featuring both animated franchises? What could that look like? I never thought of that, fortunately for fans of both animated series Aaron Hazouri and Kirsty Swan did.Read More »

Kenner Ghost Nabber Photos

In the middle of November 2014 their was a (geographically speaking) a really local comic book show. Its kinda a con, the organizers call it a show. Unbeknownst to me, this same show was held last year in my town at the same place. As the Jersey Shore Comic Book Show was coming up I knew I’d be there with my Ghostbusters franchise and friends from a second New Jersey franchise.

I thought as this con was local, more fun, less kind of pressure then a major con I could mix up the equipment and bring (and wear) some of my Kenner The Real Ghostbusters toys.Read More »

Kenner Ghost Trap Photos

I bought this Kenner Ghost Trap in 2011. It had never been open until February 10, 2012. Which is around when I created a photo album using former Ecto-Containment software. When I switched software and hosting companies the album didn’t make the move. I had always intended to share the pictures again. Two years later I have again.Read More »
